A long legacy of quality, since 1953
Glad-A-Way Gardens was founded in 1953 and is owned by the plant-loving Caird Family. Keeping our fields producing year-round is a key factor to our success, along with developing skilled workers that have now become like extended family.
Farming nearly 550 acres in California’s scenic central coast region of the Santa Maria Valley, the bright, warm sunny days are met with cool, coastal nights – ideal for growing premium field crops. Santa Maria is rich in agriculture, and Glad-A-Way’s Gladiolus stems are expertly planted among the manicured rows of strawberries and other high-end vegetable crops California is famous for.
Glad-A-Way controls our process from bulb to bloom. We proudly breed, propagate, and process 100% of our bulbs to ensure the best quality plants, that are specifically acclimated to our unique climate and growing culture. Our in-house process and location allows us to provide award-winning varieties, and superior stems for florists and retailers all over the US and Canada, year-round.
Our Process & Location Set Us Apart
From Our Own Fields
It starts with our own bulbs, harvested at the end of the previous growing cycle. Our bulb crews expertly select the best bulbs and ensure proper treatment at every step of the years-long process. When the timing is right, bulbs are carefully harvested from our fields for cleaning, sorting, cooling, and preparation for planting in the next season. Using our own bulbs not only drastically reduces diseases and increases reliability, it helps us create the highest quality, most premium flower stems.
Returning to the Ground
To produce the highest quality flowers for our customers, we rotate plantings through various fields to ensure nutrient-rich soil at every planting. Once fields are graded and prepared for planting, our own bulbs are returned to the soil with our proprietary blend of fertilizers to begin their next growing cycle.
Time is of the Essence
At just the right time, our glads are hand-harvested and quickly transported to our nearby warehouse for sorting, packing, and shipping to florists and retail locations around the United States and Canada.
A special 'sort' of quality control
Our stems are quickly cooled, then graded and bunched for orders the next day, keeping our inventory extremely fresh. We’ve integrated tasks with new technology along with experienced workers to ensure accurate and timely sorting of our flowers to reduce handling and expedite delivery to our customers.
Bunches of Joy
Our flower bunches hand-picked and prepared for various wholesale and mass market orders and shipped dry and upright. We offer freight options with our industry’s best cold-chain flower shippers and trucking lines, so they arrive fresh and ready to bloom at their destination for florists and consumers nationwide and beyond. Our unique dry method ensures an extremely long shelf-life with some of the longest lasting blooms of any other cut flowers.
